'Air Raising Stories

From the morning press scan:

Spending a penny:

The pilot of a Canadian airliner who went to the washroom during a flight found himself locked out of the cockpit, forcing the crew to remove the door from its hinges to let him back in, the airline said on Wednesday.

Something for the weekend, sir?:

Thousands of prisoners have been shaving their heads and chests to donate hair to help mop up the Philippines' worst oil spill, officials said on Wednesday.

I am sure there is a connection between these stories, but I've yet to find it.

New Blog: Same Old Blog

Yep. It's the new and improved iamadonut!

To celebrate four years of cluttering up the interweb, we've pushed the boat out and invested in a new blog template. In fact, we pilfered source code from here, there and everywhere. You can find the base code at Firdamatic.

The crack iamadonut design team spent the Bank Holiday (and, yes, it was a wet one) tinkering around with the code to give it that disorganised, non-compliant iamadonut stamp. Top drawer!

Nevermind. The content won't change much. The occasional burble from iamadonut's brain. Big personal and professional changes afoot. So, there might be a few words or six on that. Check out the rest of the iamadonut portfolio. There's links over there on the left.

Meantime, pardon our appearance as we shift over all the crap that cluttered up our sidebar.

Did someone mention the bar...

MY GOD IS BETTER THAN YOUR GOD

I've been struggling to find the words that express my thoughts and feelings about the madness of recent weeks: alleged terror plots, conflict in the world, rhetoric, bloodshed and macho politicking. Well, this sums up some of my thoughts:

The central question for our time is not how you worship God or even whether you worship God. It's whether you believe, in this life, you can be in possession of the absolute truth and you have the right to impose it on others. We need to remember that too, those of us who are the targets of terror . Because we are rich, we are strong, we have sometimes been insensitive to the weak and to the claims of people who couldn't get higher enough on our agenda. So if we want to exhort people or persuade them as well as prevent them from engaging in terror, we have to act like we believe our common humanity is important.

Too bad I claim them for myself. These eloquent and poignant words were uttered in an interview with BBC Radio, aired this morning, with Bill Clinton (should open ram file - otherwise, the current link is on this page - it'll change soon).

THERE'S A PILE OF FILING NEXT TO THE MOUSE MAT

It's started to rain. Whatever happened to the heatwave?

Why am I dreaming about travelling through Europe on trains? Not daydreaing, mind you. Those jumbled up thoughts when sleeping kind of dream.

DSCF0052
Speaking of Europe, I need to tag these 2005 holiday photos properly.

Thirteen pounds. That's the Donut weight loss since May. Today's piece of lemon cake shouln't reverse the trend. But, it cannot become a habit. Hey, a treat now and then won't hurt.

Yorkshire Soul as man in the street.

Filming of a Blair TV satire takes place near my workplace this Sunday. Brought to you by the people who did this. "Wolfie" Smith reprises the Blair role.

I was there in spirit. If only for the "bottles of water, boxes of Capri-Sun and packets of Cadburys shortcake biscuits."

HEADS AND TOES/HEADS AND TOES

Thanks for asking. My left toe is slighty better today. But, forgetting to lift my foot, I did manage to stub it on the pavement walking to the station.

Meanwhile, I'm told my trousers were too baggy and didn't show off my "nice bum". That's what you get for losing 7 pounds.

TEH INTRAWEB ARE BROKE

A productive evening clearing up the Blogroll at the side there.

Editing has been totally arbitrary. Dead blogs are, well, dead really and have been pruned. We miss Beatniksalad.

Inactive blogs have (mostly) been pruned. Some of them are in "hiatus" or "resting". Scornfate, what happened to you?

Some of you bastards to whom Iamadonut links linked, didn't link back. So...

Then there's the blogs which I cannot for the life of me remember why I linked to. Meh.

Address changes: thats always a good idea.

Anyway, it's a slimmed down and totally, y'know like, updated Blogroll.

It's also given a few moments of pleasurable reading and reminding one's self why the blogdome is teh awesome. So pleased that this little project is still going.

Help yourself, all the links are Iamadonut recommended. And, we'll be happy to add YOUR link there for the usual price of a link back.
